Naturally Khachaturian is among the selected composers, with his impassioned and expansive Concerto-Rhapsody from 1963 as the disc's opening work. This is followed by Suren Zakarian’s Monograph for cello and chamber orchestra, A Suite for cello and chamber orchestra by Zakarian's younger colleague, Vache Sharafyan follows. The composer's aim has been 'to create a sense of the perpetual cycle of life and history'.
Sharafyan has also arranged the disc's epilogue, an atmospheric arrangement of the song Krunk (Crane). Книги Маркова написаны не то чтобы совсем уж просто, интеллектуальное усилие здесь требуется, и заметное, однако и окупается оно сполна. Марков не полемизирует с креационизмом в открытую, справедливо полагая это занятие непродуктивным, однако аккуратно разъясняет те аспекты современной биологической науки, которые вызывают наибольшие проблемы понимания — в том числе потому, что не вяжутся с интуитивной логикой. Главный герой романа капитан Симонини специализируется на изготовлении фальшивок для спецслужб половины тогдашних европейских стран, однако самую знаменитую свою фальшивку, а именно «Протоколы сионских мудрецов», он изготавливает, так сказать, по велению сердца. Сам Эко объясняет, что «Девятнадцатый век оказался богат на события в той или иной степени чудовищные и загадочные — тут так и не разрешенная загадка смерти (итальянского писателя и публициста) Ипполито Ньево, и подделка "Протоколов сионских мудрецов", вдохновивших Гитлера на уничтожение евреев, и дело Дрейфуса, и бесконечные интриги, которые плели тайные полиции самых разных стран, и масонские секты, и иезуитские заговоры, и прочие события, которые показались бы достойными романа с продолжением, когда бы они не подтверждались подлинными документами». На рубеже XVIII и XIX веков европейскому читателю стали впервые доступны в переводах многие замечательные произведения восточной классики. Среди них были и древнеиндийские эпические поэмы «Махабхарата» и «Рамаяна», которые у нас в стране, по мере того как растет - особенно за последние два десятилетия - число переложений и переводов из них на русский язык, завоевывают все большие известность и признание. Обе поэмы были созданы около двух тысячелетий тому назад, на санскрите - языке давно уже мертвом, в лоне культуры, отошедшей в далекое прошлое, и, казалось бы, разрыв между нами и тем читателем, кому они предназначались, слишком велик. Таковым он и был долгое время, проявляя себя то в снисходительной трактовке Индии как страны примитивной и полуварварской, то в не менее распространенном, но столь же отстраненном восхищении ее мистической, якобы непостижимой для нас мудростью. Однако в наши дни ситуация резко меняется, Индия перестает быть загадочной страной «чудес и тайн». Мы гораздо лучше узнали Индию со-временную, а через нее и Индию древнюю. After the success of the Paris season of the Ballets Russes in 1909, Serge Diaghilev commissioned Stravinsky for a ballet inspired by the traditional Russian tale, 'The Firebird'. On 18 May 1910, the score was completed and on 25 June of the same year, the ballet was performed to great acclaim at the Opéra de Paris.
Thanks to his bewitching composition, Rimsky-Korsakov’s young pupil, then aged 27, was cast into the spotlight of the international music scene. In 19 scenes, the ballet tells the story of Ivan Tsarevich, the young prince who sets out in search of the firebird and ends up captive in the enchanted garden of Kashchei the Immortal… Deploying string and wind instruments crafted in French workshops, gut strings, and a playing style straight out of Conservatoire de Paris master classes, the Ballets Russes orchestra was, above all, a French affair.
A century later, Les Siècles and François-Xavier Roth have reconstituted the orchestra which accompanied the Ballets Russes in 1910, and, assisted by the musicologist François Dru, they have also reconstructed 'Les Orientales', which was first performed 25 June 1910 as a prelude to 'The Firebird'.
This composite ballet combines various different works from the 19th century, with in particular, compositions by Glazunov, Sinding, Arensky and Grieg. The orchestrations of 'Djinn' by Grieg and 'Danse Orientale' by Sinding have been created, respectively by Bruno Mantovani and Charlie Piper.
