Осенью 2004 г. в Москве начал работу семинар «Русская философия (традиция и современность)». Его задачей было объединение специалистов разных областей знания в деле изучения богатого наследия русской религиозно-философской мысли XIX–XX вв. Помимо чисто исторических задач существенное место в работе семинара составили современные исследования по философии и таким наукам, как психология, языкознание, антропология, естествознание, развивающие темы и идеи русской философии. Предлагаемая вниманию читателя книга представляет собой собрание избранных докладов,
прочитанных на семинаре в 2004–2009 гг.

Алексей Николаевич Паршин (7 ноября 1942, Свердловск) — советский и российский математик, один из крупнейших специалистов по алгебраической геометрии и теории чисел, доктор физико-математических наук, академик Российской академии наук (2011). Лауреат премии Гумбольдта. Помимо своей основной математической деятельности, А. Н. Паршин занимается вопросами русской религиозной философии и её взаимоотношением с современным естествознанием. В частности, принимал активное участие в изучении и публикации трудов о. Павла Флоренского и исследовании имяславия. По его инициативе был организован и регулярно проводится семинар «Русская философия (традиция и современность)».

Manet - Portraying Life. Phil Grabsky, Ben Harding

This eagerly awaited exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts was the first ever retrospective devoted to the portraiture of Edouard Manet. Spanning this enigmatic and, at times, controversial artist’s entire career Manet: Portraying Life brought together works from across Europe, Asia and the USA.

Manet’s portraiture has never been explored in exhibition form, despite it forming around half of his artistic output. He painted his family, friends and the literary, political and artistic figures of the day, giving life not only to his subjects but also to Parisian society. The exhibition consisted of more than 50 works; including portraits of his most frequent sitter, his wife Suzanne Leenhoff, luminaries of the period; Antonin Proust, Émile Zola and Stéphane Mallarmé, along with scenes from everyday life revealing Manet’s forward-thinking, modern approach to portraiture.

The film revealed exclusive behind-the-scenes moments of the exhibition’s preparation, which normally go unseen by the public, and interwove a detailed, superbly crafted biography of Manet and 19th century Paris. Host Tim Marlow and special guests looked at the craft of one of the all-time great artists, the ‘father of modern art’.

Written on Skin. George Benjamin

Written on Skin is an opera by the British composer George Benjamin. It was premiered at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in 2012, and received its British premiere at the Royal Opera House in London in March 2013; Benjamin conducted for both of these premiere seasons.

The libretto by Martin Crimp is based on a legend of the troubadour Guillaume de Cabestanh; the story is also repeated in The Decameron of Giovanni Boccaccio. The action takes place in 12th-century Provence. The wealthy Protector pays the Boy to create and illustrate a manuscript about his family. The Boy and the Protector's wife Agnès are attracted to each other. The Protector murders the Boy and forces Agnès to eat the Boy's heart. Agnès commits suicide. 'Angels' comment throughout on the action from a modern-day perspective.

The success of the opera in performance has motivated the Royal Opera to commission a new full-length opera by Crimp and Benjamin, to be premiered in 2018.

Too Much in Love to Care. Claire Martin

Claire Martin has been a driving force behind the UK jazz scene for the past 25 years and has won many accolades, including a British Jazz Award no less than six times. Her massive contribution to UK jazz was noted in 2011 when she was the proud recipient of an O.B.E. in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for her services to music.

2011 saw Claire return to the States where she performed sell-out shows at The Lincoln Center with pianist Bill Charlap and The Algonquin Hotel in New York City with Sir Richard Rodney Bennett. New York City was also the location for her latest recording 'Too Much in Love to Care' which she recorded with guest star Kenny Barron at Avatar Studios, one of the greatest recording facilities in the world.

They were joined by bassist Peter Washington, drummer Kenny Washington and guest Steve Wilson on saxophone and flute.
‘Too Much in Love to Care' is a collection of classic romantic songs and beautiful ballads from The Great American Songbook with many of the tracks recorded in just one take, remarkable as it was the first time Claire and Kenny had played together.

The British Jazz Awards 2013

The Gambler. Sergei Prokofiev

Filmed in the historic Mariinsky Theatre in 2010, it stars celebrated Russian tenor Vladimir Galuzin and bass Sergei Aleksashkin, and is conducted by Valery Gergiev. It is of fundamental significance that under Gergiev s baton the Mariinsky Orchestra and opera company have performed all of Prokofiev s symphonies, concerti and operas on numerous occasions. Georgian director Temur Chkheidze, who also presented the Mariinsky s last production in 1996 and directed the opera with critical success at the Metropolitan Opera in 2001, gives a fresh look to Prokofiev s first opera. Set in the fictional town of Roulettenburg in the mid-19th Century, 'The Gambler' is a four-act opera that displays the dramatic highs and lows involved in the game of chance. At the centre of the story is Alexei, who is in love with The General s step-daughter, Pauline. All of the characters fall victim to the temptation of gambling, each one consumed by the obsession and greed that drives them. Vladimir Galuzin, who plays the role of Alexei, is indisputably one of the world s leading dramatic tenors, known for his unrivaled stentorious voice and extremely vivid characterisations of some of the most demanding roles. A Mariinsky soloist since 1990, he is much in demand internationally, performing regularly during the last two decades as a guest of most of the world s most prominent opera houses, concert halls and festivals. The role of The General is played by Russian bass Sergei Aleksashkin. Three-time recipient of the Golden Sofit, St Petersburg s most prestigious theatre prize, Sergei has been a Mariinsky Theatre soloist since 1989, singing title roles in Mussorgsky s 'Boris Godunov' and Glinka s 'Ruslan and Lyudmila'.

For over 700 years the international language of science was Arabic. In Pathfinders, Jim al-Khalili celebrates the forgotten, inspiring pion­eers who helped shape our understanding of the world during the golden age of Arabic science, including Iraqi physicist Ibn al-Haytham, who practised the modern scientific method over half a century before Bacon; al-Khwarizmi, the greatest mathematician of the medieval world; and Abu Rayhan al-Biruni, a Persian polymath to rival Le­onardo da Vinci.

Jim Al-Khalili OBE is a theoretical physicist, author and broadcaster. He is currently Professor of Physics at the University of Surrey, where he also holds the first Surrey chair in the public engagement in sci­ence. He was awarded the Royal Society Michael Faraday Prize for science communication in 2007, elected Honorary Fellow of the Brit­ish Association for the Advancement of Science and has also re­ceived the Institute of Physic's Public Awareness of Physics Award. Born in Baghdad, Jim was educated in Iraq until the age of 16 and it was there, being taught by Arabic teachers in Arabic that he first heard and learnt about the great Arab scientists and philosophers. He has long championed the influence of Islam on science and hopes to bring attention to the rich Arab heritage in our understanding of sci­ence today.

Whether intelligence is largely determined by genetics or environment has long been hotly contested. Nisbett, a University of Michigan psy­chology professor, weighs in forcefully and articulately, claiming that environmental conditions almost completely overwhelm the impact of genes. He comes to this conclusion through a careful statistical ana­lysis of a large number of studies and also demonstrates how envir­onment can influence not only IQ measures but actual achieve­ment of both students and adults. (People often overachieve when appropri­ate incentives are in place, Nisbett argues.) Nisbett builds a very strong case that measured IQ differences across racial, cultural and socioeconomic boundaries can easily be explained without re­sorting to hereditary factors. The result is a very positive message: schools, parents and government programs can have a huge impact if they take the right, which are not necessarily the most expensive, steps. Without those steps, he says, the current role of socioeconomic factors is frightening, with economically disadvantaged children largely condemned to failure. Although Nisbett relies heavily on stat­istics to document his claims, he does so in a manner accessible to general readers and uses a thoroughly appealing style to engage them throughout.

While we watch them work and struggle to introspect and talk about their art and their craft, we also hear Hubert Dreyfus and his students reflect on Heidegger and his philosophy. Our artisans confess that they can­not explain in rational terms how they do what they do. The being is in the doing. Interviews and action intertwine to make a challenging philosophy clear to the lay viewer.

RAUTAVAARA Modificata, Incantations, Towards the Horizon

The works on this CD span over 50 years of Einojuhani Rautavaara's career, the earliest, Modificata from 1957, and the latest, Percussion Concerto, "Incantations," from 2008-2009. The album is filled out by another late piece, Cello Concerto No. 2, "Towards the Horizon," from 2008. It's intriguing to hear how much has changed and how much has held steady in his musical expression. "Prævariata," the first movement of Modificata, was the first Finnish serial work. The pitch choices may have been de­termined serially, but instead of the edgy angularity of much serial music of the era, this piece is full of the Romantic, sweeping lines that characterize Rautavaara's most familiar style; in a game of Guess the Composer, an astute listener might easily suggest Rautavaara, based on the use of the kinds of grand, lyrical ges­tures that have persisted throughout his career. With the two con­certos, fans of the composer are in more familiar territory. Both pieces have evocative titles that suggest mystery and the un­known, and are essentially lyrical and strongly melodic. In the Percussion Concerto that means ample use of marimba and vi­braphone. In both works Rautavaara conjures up images of mys­terious wind-swept landscapes with a signature device: passages of swirling activity, often in the woodwinds, coursing over a slow-moving bass and under a soaring, lyrical melody. John Storgårds leads the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in atmospheric and en­ergetic reading of the scores. The concertos feature the so­loists for whom they were written. Cellist Truls Mørk plays with a sweet, singing, intense tone that suits the character of the con­certo well. Scottish percussionist Colin Currie manages the com­poser's demanding score with ease and panache. Ondine, sound is clean, detailed, and nicely ambient.

Peter Ash: The Golden Ticket

The Golden Ticket, a comic opera based on Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, was commissioned by American Lyric Theater and Felicity Dahl from American composer Peter Ash and British librettist Donald Sturrock. Dahl's fantastic imagination is vividly brought to life in the witty libretto, and the completely original score ingeniously parodies many traditional operatic conventions to help por­tray the bigger than life characters that inhabit Wonka's world. The opera premiered in 2010 at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, in partnership with Ireland's Wexford Festival Opera and New York's American Lyric Theater, where it was embraced by audiences and critics alike: "Donald Sturrock's libretto captures the wit, wizardry and wonder of Dahl's story about five children who gain access to the le­gendary Willy Wonka's confectionery establishment in a contest by finding golden tickets in their chocolates.

This recording is taken from a live performance of The Golden Ticket at The Atlanta Opera in March 2012, con­ducted by composer Peter Ash, with a stellar cast includ­ing Daniel Okulitch in the role of Willy Wonka and Ben­jamin P. Wenzelberg as Charlie. The Atlanta Journal Con­stitution declared, "There may come a day when music teachers everywhere will use characters from The Golden Ticket to teach lessons about voices in opera... "

The lightness and charm of the overture sets the tone for a wonderfully engaging performance from the forces of Szczecin’s Opera at the Castle under Warcislaw Kunc. Celebrated as the ‘Father of Polish music’, Moniuszko re­mains too little known abroad, and this Verbum Nobile – only the work’s second recording – should help to in­crease his appeal.

Cecil Taylor, whose intense, lengthy and complex piano improvisations have redefined jazz and redesigned his in­strument, has been awarded the 2013 Kyoto Prize for “Arts and Philosophy: Music”. Prizes for individuals who have “contributed significantly to the progress of science, the advancement of civilization, and the enrichment and elevation of the human spirit” have also been announced in the fields of Advanced Technology and Basic Science.

 Taylor has previously been honored with Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellowships, and named an NEA Jazz Master among other awards and prizes.

 The Kyoto Prize was established by Kazuo Inamori in 1984; Dr. Inamori is also the founder of the Kyocera Corporation.

Drivin' the Boogie. Chris Conz Trio

Die Musik ist sehr vielseitig und gereift und wird mit un­glaublichem Groove und viel Drive vorgetragen – sei es nun mit dem „Warm up Blues" (swingige Eigenkompositi­on mit gefühlvollen Klängen), „Drivin' the Boogie" (pianisti­sche Hochgeschwindigkeits-Fingerakrobatik und trotzdem durchgängig groovig), „Dragging The Blues" (erzeugt die­ses schleppende Blues-Tanz-Feeling in uns), „Honky Tonk Train Blues" (DER Klassiker, der die Wesensver­wandtschaft des Boogie Woogie zu Dampflokomotiven besonders gut zum Ausdruck bringt), „Margie" (Happy-Sound zum tanzenderweise „absauen" und danach laut­haus "Zugabe" rufen) oder mit „Bop Boogie" (zügiges Tempo, ohne jedoch beim Tanzen Stress zu erzeugen, richtig gut rollend). Beim letztgenannten Stück lässt im In­tro der Bassist Nuno Alexandre, der vollauf in die Musik der 30er-, 40er- und 50er-Jahre vernarrt ist, seinen eige­nen Trademark-Slap-Style aufblitzen. Und durch die gan­ze CD hindurch verhält sich Martin Meyer am Schlagzeug sehr zurückhaltend und erzeugt gerade deshalb und na­türlich mit seinem Swing sehr grosse Wirkung!

... oder kurz gesagt: sehr groovig, zum Tanzen inspirie­rend ... - wir lieben es!
