The Baroque Theatre of Cˇ eský Krumlov Castle provides an ideal setting for one of the most important operas in music history, Christoph Willibald Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice. Director Ondrˇej Havelka captures much more than a stage performance: combining period details with modern psychological interpretation he chooses a cinematic approach that literally takes us behind the scenes of this unique venue. Bejun Mehta, ‘arguably the best countertenor in the world today’ (Sueddeutsche Zeitung), lends credibility to the emotions tormenting Orfeo’s heart. As his beloved Euridice, Austrian soprano Eva Liebau juggles joy and jealousy. Bringing comic relief to the work’s dark tone is Regula Mühlemann as Amore, who cheerily sends mortals zigzagging on their way to life, love – and, maybe, death. Under the baton of baroque specialist Václav Luks, the splendid soloists are supported by the Prague orchestra and vocal ensemble Collegium 1704 and Collegium Vocale 1704. In March of 1990, two thieves dressed as Boston police officers gained entrance to the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum in Boston Massachusetts and successfully executed the largest art heist in modern history. Among the thirteen priceless works stolen was Vermeer's "The Concert" one of only 35 of the masters surviving works. Not a single one of the works has been recovered. STOLEN is a full exploration of the Gardner theft, and the fascinating, disparate characters involved: from the 19th century Grand dame Isabella Gardner to a private detective obsessed with finding the art to a terrorist organization with a penchant for stealing Vermeers.

This latest recording by the Cincinnati Symphony Orches­tra and its Music Director Paavo Järvi features two of the best known orchestral works to come out of England in the twentieth century, Gustav Holst's popular suite for orches­tra, “The Planets” and The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra by Benjamin Britten. Composed between 1914 and 1916, Gustav Holst’s sev­en-movement Planets Suite is renowned for its brilliant or­chestral colours, and powerful sound-images. The disc also features the re-issue of the orchestra’s highly regarded re­cording of Britten’s Young Person's Guide to the Orches­tra. Originally released alongside the same composer’s Four Sea Interludes from “Peter Grimes” and Elgar’s “En­igma Variations” the review in The Gramophone said: “These are fresh, clean-cut performances, superbly played and vividly recorded, and can be warmly recom­mended to any collector.”
